Singapore

So far, so good. We've landed and found our hostel (hangout@mt.emily, which has a very nice roof garden). We're staying here for three nights, with a new room tomorrow. The current one doesn’t have a window, so fingers crossed and perhaps we'll get a view.  We went for a short walk and ended up in Little India eating curries from banana leaves; mango lassi for dessert. Yummi! Having slept very little the last few days it’s gonna be great to finally get to sleep in.

Our second day in Singapore and a day with a lot of walking! We walked around Orchard road looking for some clothes to colourful Clarke Quay at sunset, followed by watching fireworks at Marina bay – it was Singapore’s national day today.

Third day in Singapore, a day spent getting tickets for a night train to Kuala Lumpur and walking around the Singapore Botanic Garden. Dinner at Makansutra was good, satay, prata and murtabak. We’re off to Malaysia tomorrow evening, so we’ve one more day to enjoy orderly and clean S’pore.

Fourth and final day in Singapore! A great day with a tour of the RedDot design museum, some excellent kaya toast for breakfast and chicken rice for lunch (finally found a really good chicken rice). All followed by the most expensive gin and tonic ever at Raffles. The evening took us to Woodlands and onto the sleeper train that would carry us into Malaysia.

The train ride to KL was a very bumpy one and there was not really any point in buying sleeping (berth) tickets. After perhaps half an hour of accumulated sleep we arrived in KL, tired, but happy in the knowledge that coffee would be readily available. We found a very nice hostel called BackHome Kuala Lumpur (which let us have a shower on our arrival 7 am), and we plan on being in KL for one night before heading to Cameron Highlands.
